Looking for a light laptop?

My five-year-old has designed and assembled this cool laptop.
I've tried it - it's extremely light and small and perfect
for business trips. Runs Windows 7; PowerPoint preinstalled.

This is not smog - it's snowing again...

Wikipedia for Breakfast?

Wekipedia actually.

Paul will never die

No more war, please...

Wonderful Wedding

I attended a wonderful wedding yesterday.
The bride and the groom looked fantastic.
Along with some music, the reception
featured a speech from a flight attendant,
a nice little cartoon clip created by a young artist
called Maiko Shimomura, and a message from
a recent Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Kyoto - Westin Miyako

Westin

Day 1 at MSRA

From my apartment to the nearest subway station: 10 minutes on foot.
Subway ride: 20 minutes. My subway line is new, so the trains are clean, with good air conditioning. I can avoid the rush hours.
Zhichunlu (知春路) station to MSRA: 3 minutes on foot.
This is all very good, by Japanese standards.

What did I do at MSRA today?
I signed lots of Chinese documents that I cannot read, and
verified that this is not just a chopping board.

Baijiu

My new office at MSRA

Chin-Yew Lin, who is going to be my new boss,
sent me this picture just now.

This will be my very first private office.
I don't know what's inside yet, but at least I have my own door.

Still unemployed

I cannot get that cover song by Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin out of my head:
We're busy doing nothing working the whole day through
Trying to find lots of things not to do

If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.

Beijing Beer

My new default Beer. Very cheap!
Only 1.98RMB at a nearby supermarket;
2.5RMB at the convenience store downstairs.
(Currently 1RMB=14JPY.)

Beginning in Beijing

- Opened a Chinese bank account
- Bought mobile phones
- Bought subway cards
- Visited Microsoft and gave documents for my work permit application
(Special thanks to Fei and Ella for their help!)
- Bought food at a department store
- Took my daughter to the playground/playroom

I've been told I will have to visit PSB. Pet Shop Boys? Yes, I like their latest album (called Yes). Great music and great production, though the lyrics may be less interesting than usual.

Huh? Public Security Bureau?

No income, one kid

All work and no play makes Tetsuya a dull boy.

Got my Chinese visa at last!

It's been a long and winding road, starting with my medical exam.

The relocation company came and took everything away today, but I cannot apply for an import permit until I have both a work permit and a residence permit. So all my boxes will stay in Japan until mid May.

It's not over yet.
